Upper Bidwell Park Project
Project Origin
One day atop the Bear Hole Cliffs I decided to do a photographic project
on Upper Bidwell Park, to attempt capturing the wondrous backyard
world I'd been lucky enough to be raised by. Growing up in Chico, I'd
spent a great deal of time in the park over the years, it was a place I
knew quite well. I began by revisiting many of the area’s I'd explored over
the years, searching for the right view, lighting, certain moments that
capture its essence to me. As my interest in photographing the park grew
I became completely dedicated, spending the next 2 years covering every
season, in every type of weather, traversing this captivating and unique
geological terrain many times over. Two years and 15,000 photographs
later the project is now nearing completion.
My goal for this work is that it may help to inspire a renewed sense of
pride in our community for Bidwell Park and help to develop a clear
plan to sustain and preserve this sacred trust for current & future
generations to enjoy its wild and beautiful solitude.
